**Description:** Scientists are not usually trained to efficiently and effectively communicate with colleagues and other professionals in their fields. However, research as well as your career cannot progress without gaining familiarity with the best practices in professional correspondence for scientists. Join us as Kathy Brenner describes proper email etiquette along with crafting cover letters for manuscript submission. In addition to appropriate email practice, learn about the drawbacks of improper correspondence.

After discussing email and cover letters, we will segue to the use of AI and ChatGPT in scientific writing. We will review the benefits and serious pitfalls of AI along with the importance of human text and human oversight.
