Description: This session is designed to teach postdocs how to act as prosocial bystanders when witnessing harassment that threaten someone’s health or safety through the lens of the academic research and teaching environment. This includes abusive and intimidating behavior, discrimination and other types of harassment. This session walks through recognizing and interpreting problematic behavior and teaches five core bystander intervention techniques, using examples of each technique and applying them to case studies. It also introduces tips for determining which intervention style may be most appropriate, depending on the situation, your identities, and your safety.
About the Speaker: Keri Godin serves as the Director for Professional Integrity in the Office for Academic and Research Integrity at HMS.  In this role she is responsible for the HMS/HSDM professional integrity program and implementing related policies. She also serves as the Title IX Resource Coordinator for concerns and complaints against faculty. Keri spent five years in a research laboratory on the Quad before transitioning into roles in research ethics & integrity, and has completed professional training in bystander intervention and conflict de-escalation.
