Landing the Role: Teaching strategies for faculty applications and interviews 

This hybrid mini course is designed to support postdoctoral scholars as they prepare for faculty position interviews and teaching responsibilities. Through a combination of in-person and Zoom sessions, participants will explore key topics including:

  • Understanding the Academic Job Market
  • Developing a Values-Based Teaching Philosophy
  • Pedagogical Strategies for Student Engagement
  • Designing an Effective Teaching Demonstration

The course emphasizes practical application. By the end of the program, attendees will leave with a polished teaching philosophy statement and confidence in presenting an engaging teaching demo.

 

Session 2:  Crafting Values-Based Teaching Philosophy (Zoom) 

Description: 

In this session, participants will learn the purpose and structure of a teaching philosophy and begin drafting their own statement. Through a combination of mini-lecture, exemplar review, and guided writing activities, attendees will identify their core teaching values, articulate their approach to student learning, and reflect on evidence of teaching effectiveness. Peer feedback will help refine ideas and strengthen clarity. By the end of the session, participants will have the foundation for a compelling, values-driven teaching philosophy.
